About the author

I am mom to my delightful young son whom I homeschool. I love books and learning, particularly learning adventures that involve the great outdoors. Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy inspired me to create a South African odyssey for my son so that he may delight in studying the geography of our country.

For many years, I taught high school English and always yearned for an outdoor classroom. When my homeschooling season began, I set about doing just that. What a joy to spend the greater part of each day outside!

We are always looking for ways to take even our most workbook-bound daily lessons outdoors. The perfect opportunity for outdoor learning came at the end of 2018 when we decided that 2019 would be our year for studying all things South African. From this dream, Meandering Mzansi was born.

We are a family of travellers and by the time I started writing Meandering Mzansi, we had already visited several of the places written about in the book. Just before the completion of this South African geography curriculum, we set about planning our ultimate meander through Mzansi and I am happy to say that this dream is now a reality
